Job Summary

Position Title: Emergency Shelter Overnight Supervisor

Reports to: Director of Programs

Job Type: Full-Time, Seasonal, Non-Exempt

On-Call Responsibilities: 1 week per month

DESCRIPTION 

The Emergency Shelter Overnight Supervisor provides a welcoming, trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming environment for young adults experiencing homelessness. Working alongside the Evening Supervisor and Director of Programs, they help lead Nashville Launch Pad’s Emergency Shelter program by supervising staff, overseeing shelter operations, supporting volunteers, and ensuring high-quality services for guests during the seasonal shelter (October–April).

Job Responsibilities

 Staff Supervision 

● Supervise and provide leadership to Overnight and PRN Emergency Shelter Advocates and Graduate Interns.

● Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of seasonal shelter staff.

● Support staff scheduling, timekeeping, and timesheet review to ensure adequate program coverage.

● Utilize scheduling and project management software to coordinate shift coverage, track assignments, and facilitate communication across programs.

● Serve as the program’s on-call supervisor one week per month, providing operational support and guidance as needed.

● Support, empower, and receive feedback from volunteers and meal/supply donors that support program clients and the agency through in-kind support.

Guest Experience 

● Provide on-site supervision and share responsibility for crisis intervention and incident response with other management staff.

● Partner with the Director of Programs and Evening Supervisor to lead behavior management strategies and respond to complex guest situations using a trauma-informed approach.

● Engage and support guests experiencing the impacts of trauma, behavioral health challenges, and emotional distress with professionalism, empathy, and de-escalation techniques.

● Ensure consistent implementation of and compliance with agency policies, procedures, and program standards.

Quality Improvement and Reporting 

● Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and recommend updates to policies and procedures.

● Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of participant information in accordance with agency policies and applicable regulations.

● Support accurate and timely documentation by maintaining participant census, demographic, and program data in HMIS and Salesforce.

● Monitor and ensure data quality and timeliness in HMIS and Salesforce.

● Run program-level data reports regularly to resolve errors and missing information.

● Communicate data process challenges, solutions, and needs with the Evening Supervisor and Director of Programs .

Other Program Responsibilities 

● Plan and facilitate Emergency Shelter staff meetings in collaboration with the Director of Programs and Evening Supervisor.

● Foster a positive and supportive volunteer experience by providing guidance, recognizing contributions, and implementing improvements based on volunteer feedback.

SHIFT SCHEDULE 

● Provide on-site leadership in the Emergency Shelter three or four overnight shifts per week, including some weekend shifts.

● Provide evening and/or overnight coverage as needed to ensure adequate staffing and continuity of operations.

● Participate in shared leadership coverage during holidays, severe weather events, and other emergency or inclement weather responses to ensure uninterrupted program operations.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 3–4 years of relevant professional experience.

● Previous leadership and team management experience preferred.

● Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly young adults (ages 18–26) and/or individuals experiencing homelessness, preferred.

● Commitment to providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and LGBTQIA+ affirming services.

● Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.

● Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

● Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.

● Proficiency with standard computer applications and electronic documentation.

● Ability to document information accurately, objectively, and in a timely manner.

● Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team while making independent decisions when appropriate.

● Ability to maintain healthy professional boundaries with guests, volunteers, and staff.

● Access to reliable transportation for occasional transport of donated food and supplies.

● Ability to successfully pass a background check.

● Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

● Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 30 pounds.

● Ability to sit, stand, walk, or remain in one position for extended periods.

● Ability to perform physical activities such as reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching as needed.

● Ability to work effectively in environments with varying noise levels.
