Job Title: Nocturnist Physician

No. of Positions or Candidates Required: 1 Full-Time Physician

Specialty: Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Nocturnist / Inpatient Hospitalist

Place of Work (City/State): Shiprock, New Mexico

Primary Site: Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC), U.S. Hwy 491 North, Shiprock, NM 87420

Services may also be required at other healthcare facilities within the Shiprock Service Unit, as applicable. The Shiprock Service Unit includes Northern Navajo Medical Center, Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Health Center, and Four Corners Regional Health Center.

Start Date: Nov 2026

Shift Schedule:

• Night Shift: 7:30 PM 7:30 AM
• 12-hour shifts
• Typical schedule: 7 nights on / 7 nights off
• Alternatively, schedules may consist of 4 5 contiguous night shifts distributed throughout the month.
• Specific tours of duty may vary depending on workload, emergencies, staffing requirements, and facility needs.

How Many Shifts Needed per Month: Approximately 14 night shifts per 28-day period.

License: Current, valid, and unrestricted physician license in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. Territory. The license must remain active and unrestricted throughout the contract.

Certifications:

• Active Board Certification in Internal Medicine (ABIM) or Family Medicine (ABFM)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• All required certifications must remain valid throughout the contract.

Experience Needed:

• Minimum 36 months (3 years) of physician experience
• Minimum 12 months of inpatient hospitalist care experience
• Recent inpatient and ICU care experience is required

Special Skills Needed:

• Ability to manage inpatient and ICU patients.
• Ability to safely manage ventilators.
• Basic computer/EHR skills.
• Bedside procedures such as central line placement and paracentesis are preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Provide overnight inpatient hospitalist care.
• Admit and manage General Medicine and ICU patients.
• Provide cross-coverage and respond to inpatient emergencies.
• Coordinate patient transfers and consultations as needed.
• Complete accurate and timely medical documentation.
• Follow IHS policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Misc:

• Northern Navajo Medical Center has 55 inpatient beds, including 5 ICU beds.
• Fitness-for-duty, immunization, background check, and IHS orientation requirements apply.
• Medical liability insurance is required.
